Delete your Gita Ganga account

You can delete your Gita Ganga account and its associated personal data at any time. This page explains how, what is removed, and what we are required to keep.

If you can sign in

This is the fastest route, and it takes effect immediately.

  1. Sign in at gitaganga.bhagavadgitafoundation.org, or open the Gita Ganga mobile app.
  2. Go to Account. On mobile, open Profile then Delete account.
  3. Scroll to Delete account at the bottom of the page and follow the prompts. You will be asked for your password to confirm.

If you cannot sign in

Email support@bhagavadgitafoundation.org from the address on the account and ask us to delete it. We will verify that you own the address before acting, and confirm by email once it is done.

Use this route if you have uninstalled the app, forgotten your password, or lost access to the account for any other reason.

What happens when you delete

Your account is deactivated straight away and enters a 12-day grace period. During those 12 days you can sign in and restore the account yourself — nothing is permanently removed yet, though access to subscription content is suspended. After 12 days the account and its personal data are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

Deleting your account immediately cancels any recurring donation. That cancellation is final: restoring the account within the grace period does not reinstate the donation, and a new one would have to be set up.

What is deleted

  • Your name, email address, postal address and phone number
  • Your password
  • Your listening progress and in-app activity
  • Your subscription entitlements

What we keep, and why

Records of donations and the tax receipts issued for them are kept permanently, and we are not free to delete them. As a registered non-profit we are required to retain them for tax and audit purposes — under Section 80G of the Income-tax Act, 1961 in India, and as an IRS-recognised 501(c)(3) organisation in the United States.

To be plain about what that means: a tax receipt is a legal document and has to keep identifying the person who gave, so the name and address on those records stay there permanently. They are unlinked from your account — nothing ties them to a login any more, and they cannot be used to sign in or to reach you through the app — but they are not anonymised, and deleting your account does not erase them.

Unredeemed subscription gifts you purchased for someone else also survive, so that the recipient can still redeem them.
